Paris Saint-Germain
BarcelonaBarcelona have won every competitive game they've played this season. On Tuesday 20 October they go to the Parc des Princes, where the two-time defending champions now have Ferran Torres leading the line, a player Barcelona sold them in August. PSG vs Barcelona is the pick of Champions League Matchday 3, and I don't think it's close.
It's also the fourth European meeting between these clubs in three seasons. Paris won the last two, including a 2-1 win in Barcelona twelve months ago settled by a stoppage-time goal. Kick-off is 21:00 in Paris, 20:00 in the UK and 3pm ET in the US.
Ferran Torres against the club that sold him
Ferran scored Barcelona's goal in that 2-1 defeat last October. On Tuesday he lines up against the club where he spent four and a half years, scored 65 goals in 207 appearances and won three league titles.
His summer went about as well as a footballer's summer can. He scored the extra-time winner for Spain against Argentina in the World Cup final in July, then pushed for a move to Paris and a reunion with his former national team coach. PSG paid around 50 million euros and handed him the number 9 shirt. After signing, he described Luis Enrique as "a father figure."
He's started well, too. Ferran scored a hat-trick on his Champions League debut for the club in the 6-1 win over Slovan Bratislava, a night when Ousmane Dembele struck twice inside six minutes and Fabian Ruiz added a late sixth.
Barcelona sanctioned the sale with only a year left on his contract. If he scores at the Parc, people in Catalonia will be arguing about that decision for a while.

Paris look better in Europe than at home
Ligue 1 has been less convincing. PSG are sixth with 11 points from six matches after a sluggish start, although Saturday's 3-1 win over Le Mans made it three league wins in a row. Luis Enrique has rotated heavily, resting Dembele and Nuno Mendes for that game with the bigger European nights in mind.
Before Barcelona arrive, PSG go to Manchester City on Wednesday night. That result will set the mood in Paris, and a game against Enzo Maresca's side six days before this one will cost them something physically. Still, the league table doesn't change much for me. In this competition they're the team everyone else gets measured against, and their recent record against Barcelona is the best argument they have.
The injury list is short. Senny Mayulu, who scored against Barcelona last season, is out for several weeks with a thigh problem picked up with France's under-21s, and reserve goalkeeper Alessandro Longoni is also unavailable. Dembele, Mendes, Desire Doue, Vitinha and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia all travelled to Manchester.
Flick's Barcelona haven't dropped a point
Hansi Flick's side lead La Liga with eight wins from eight, 34 goals scored and seven conceded. In Europe they beat Feyenoord 5-1 and then won 4-1 in Istanbul on Tuesday.
The Galatasaray game told us more. Barcelona fell behind to a deflected Aleksei Batrakov effort, Joao Cancelo levelled before the break, and they pulled away in the second half, with substitute Karim Adeyemi scoring the fourth. Lamine Yamal was Player of the Match. He had seven league goals before the Getafe game.
The summer rebuild looked risky and has worked so far. Robert Lewandowski left for Chicago Fire and Ferran went to Paris, but Anthony Gordon arrived from Newcastle for an initial 70 million euros, and Adeyemi and Gabriel Jesus have both scored in Europe already.
Flick picked a strong XI in Istanbul, with Joan Garcia in goal, Pau Cubarsi and Gerard Martin at centre-back, and Yamal, Gordon and Dani Olmo in attack. We'll know more after Saturday's trip to Real Betis. What I'd most like to know is whether the high defensive line PSG kept getting behind last October has been fixed.

BarcelonaBarcelona should remember 2024
| Date | Fixture | Stage |
|---|---|---|
| 1 Oct 2025 | Barcelona 1-2 PSG | League phase |
| 16 Apr 2024 | Barcelona 1-4 PSG | Quarter-final, 2nd leg |
| 10 Apr 2024 | PSG 2-3 Barcelona | Quarter-final, 1st leg |
That quarter-final still stings in Barcelona. They won in Paris, led on aggregate, and went out 6-4 after PSG scored four at their ground. Across all competitive meetings the record is close to level, but the recent momentum is with Paris.
PSG vs Barcelona prediction
Both teams want the ball and both press high, which is why games between them tend to be open. Barcelona's form deserves respect. Then again, PSG at home against elite opposition have rarely looked vulnerable under Luis Enrique.
I'm going 2-2, with goals at both ends. A draw would suit Barcelona more than PSG, and if Wednesday in Manchester goes badly, expect Paris to come out swinging.
